Women’s Groups Feud over New Doctor

A single man moving to Fool’s Gold sets local women’s hearts aflutter. A single doctor has caused a rift between two local women’s groups… and he hasn’t even arrived!

Dr. Simon Bradley is a world-renowned pediatric burn specialist who has accepted a temporary post at the Fool’s Gold Hospital. That word, “temporary,” is the reason the women’s groups are fighting. Both sides agree that they want to keep Dr. Bradley in town forever, but they disagree about how to convince the good doctor to stay.

The Casserole Brigade believes that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. They would like to set up a schedule to feed the doctor a delicious meal every day.

The Singletaries, a group of single secretaries, believe that the way to a man’s heart is through a different body part altogether. They have coordinated a complex schedule of “accidental” meetings between the doctor and women who have signed up on the dating roster. Dating opportunities are to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Singletaries are concerned that the Casserole Brigade will feed Dr. Bradley too well.

“If they’re feeding him every night, it throws our whole schedule out of whack,” says Eddie Carberry, the septuagenarian president of the Singletaries. “We’ve got spies all over town who will activate the phone tree the second they spot Dr. Bradley at a local restaurant.”

Representatives of both groups stormed into Mayor Marsha’s office and asked her to settle the dispute.

With a weary sigh, the mayor rose from her chair and came around her desk. “We are not going to assault the poor man as soon as he sets foot across the town limits. I want him to stay as much as you do,” she said, raising a hand to forestall arguments. “But I will choose one woman to introduce him to Fool’s Gold and show him everything we have to offer. Trust me, Dr. Bradley isn’t going anywhere.”
