Fool’s Gold Dance Teacher Weds

On Saturday, May 18, dance teacher Evangeline Stryker wed attorney Dante Jefferson at the Church of the Open Door in Fool’s Gold, followed by a black-tie reception for 200 in the grand ballroom at the Gold Rush Resort.

“Only in Fool’s Gold would we have such a big wedding,” Evie said. “We both just moved here last year, but the town took us into their hearts in a big way.”

“Sometimes a little more than we were comfortable with,” Dante added, “but once you get over the shock of having so many people care about you, it’s kind of nice.”

Evie and Dante of Fool's Gold“We look out for each other here,” Evie said. “I didn’t realize how lonely I was in the city until after I’d lived in Fool’s Gold for a few months.”

In what might just break a world record, there were 35 flower girls at the wedding – students at Evie’s dance studio – all wearing matching pink tutus. At the reception, the flower girls surprised the bride with a dance led by Grace, a talented 14-year-old who broke her leg skiing last year. The dance, performed to “All You Need Is Love,” was choreographed by Evie’s business partner and famous former ballerina Dominique Guérin.

“My own daughter stubbornly refuses to get married,” Dominique said. “Her fiancé wants a big wedding, but my Charlie keeps pushing for an elopement. An elopement! She’s trying to deny me the glory of being mother-of-the-bride.”

Evie’s mother certainly dove into the m-o-b role this past Saturday. May Simpson was rarely far from her daughter’s side, walking her down the aisle, giving her away, and bringing tears to everyone’s eyes with the most emotional toast of the evening. Rumor has it that mother and daughter weren’t always so close, but there was no mistaking the love between them on this most happy occasion.
