The Grandest Gesture

Local contractor Ethan Hendrix is trying for the record books once more. No, he hasn’t taken up cycling again. This time, he’s in a bid to achieve the World’s Grandest Gesture to show his fiancée how much he loves her. For the past two months, he’s been placing love notes around Fool’s Gold for his fiancée to find. His fiancée is bestselling mystery novelist Liz Sutton.

Plane with banner that says Ethan loves LizThe notes have appeared in ads in the local newspaper, on the program for the first football game of the season at Fool’s Gold High, and on a banner behind a small airplane flying over the Dog Days of Summer Fair. But Sutton seems most touched by the handwritten notes handed to her when she’s out running errands.

“I was at the spa last week with Melissa, my niece, and the pedicurist handed me a note from Ethan,” Sutton said, wiping a tear from her eye.

Are the notes working?

“Let’s just say this,” Sutton said. “I won’t be killing Ethan in my books anymore.”

Hendrix kissed the top of her head. “I know it’s corny, but I want her to understand how much she means to me. I wasn’t very nice to her when she first came back to town, so I have a lot of making up to do.”
